About CATSO
Helping Create Safer Communities
The Connecticut Association for the Treatment of Sexual Offenses (CATSO) is a multidisciplinary professional association serving the welfare of the community by promoting safe, effective, and humane responses to children and adults with problem sexual behaviors.
Our History
Building a Safer Community Since 1983
CATSO began in 1983 as the Sex Offender Treatment Provider's Network. A group of treatment providers who were beginning to specialize in the assessment and treatment of people with problem sexual behaviors met regularly to exchange information, share resources, and facilitate training.
In 1990, the organization adopted the name CATSO to reflect its broader purpose of promoting community safety through specialized assessment and treatment in Connecticut.
Our Mission and Approach
Promoting Safety Through Effective Treatment
CATSO members believe that community safety must remain a priority for professionals who specialize in the assessment and treatment of people with problem sexual behaviors.
Our members include mental health and allied professionals who recognize the importance of up-to-date, effective assessment and treatment services for children, adolescents, and adults who engage in problem sexual behaviors.
CATSO providers work with other professionals, community agencies, and the criminal justice system to support a comprehensive response to sexual abuse. This work also recognizes the needs of families, friends, survivors, and the wider community.

Professional Education and Ethical Practice
Advancing Professional Education and Ethical Standards
CATSO supports professional development through communication, continuing education, and guidance on effective standards for assessment and treatment.
The organization also provides ethical principles that address the specific circumstances involved in assessing and treating people with problem sexual behaviors. These principles are intended to work alongside the ethical guidelines of each provider's professional discipline and applicable statutory reporting laws.
CATSO members seek to increase public awareness of the specialized training and expertise needed to provide effective assessment and treatment services.
